Well, in three weeks from today, i will be in Newport, Oregon and an official Marathoner! Today i did my last long training run and it was a whopping 22 miles. I know realize why the Kenyans run so fast. The faster you run, the faster you are done. Running these long distances by myself, makes for an even longer run. It gets boring hanging out with just myself! Ha! I get so excited to see another runner running towards me, just so i can raise my hand and give them a wave! So i look forward to the big 26.2 for the fact that i will be surrounded from hundreds of runners!
In December, when Eric was giving me my schedule, i was freaking out that i would be running this far and as much as i was and it amazes me to look at my calendar and look back and see all that i have accomplished. It has been said, "Only one person and one person only will determine how good of a runner you become....You will become as good as you let yourself be. That one person is you." I have worked so hard and am really looking forward to putting all my training to the test.
Here is an update on my big back problem. The Chiropractor, and lots of medications have saved my back. I am so happy, i thought i was doomed. What i had was called Runner's Butt. A little muscle on the top of your butt gets inflamed and it cuts of your sciatic, causing horrible pain. The problem with that is us crazy runners keep running and by the time the symptoms transpire it is bad. But this week, i have felt night and day difference. I am going to keep on on my meds, keep stretching and seeing the chiropractor and cross my fingers that it stays calm until June 1st, the day after the marathon! Ha!
People keep asking me if running is something i am going to keep doing, and i for sure am. It is something that has changed my life, given me something to be passionate about and get me healthy. I have dropped about 56 pounds and am so close to my goal weight. I feel like running has brought some happiness back into my life. It has given me confidence and something to be proud about. I already have a list of events filling up my summer and fall. And maybe finding a guy will work in somewhere! Ha!

Way to go Jess! I wish I were joining you. I will be starting PT next week...hopefully that helps. I had an xray yesterday to see if there is a disc problem. I hope not. I started swimming again last week and that seems to really help too, but I am still out for running. I really want to start back up but am afraid to do real damage before going to Peru for the summer. Sucky. Anyways good luck on the race!
You are amazing, the thought of running that much is daunting but very inspiring. Thanks for the info on sciatic pain. I get that sometimes, especially last night and knowing that it could be an inflammation that is contributing to it is very helpful to me.
Congratulations! Jess! We are so proud of you, told Gpa would be fun to go watch you run in New Port Beach, but guess we won't be able to. Know we are pulling for you and cheering you on. Run a special mile for each of us. We love you, Gma and Gpa
Way to go on your 22. You have come a long way. I am so proud of you, but then I have always been proud of you. I couldn't have asked for a better daughter. Thanks for a great Mothers Day. The dinner you cooked was just yummy, and I loved my gifts. You know me so well.
I look forward to cheering you on in Newport. Love, Mom
Im so proud of you! I wish I lived by you so you could get my fat butt motivated!! Miss ya!
56 POUNDS? HOLY CRAP!!! You are awesome! It was fun to see you in action on Saturday. I swear I am going to start running. You are inspiring me!!!
I'm with KJ. Holy cow, I'm so impressed by your 56 pounds, that is such a huge accomplishment. I wish I loved running as much as you, you make it sound like the best thing ever... I can't wait to hear how the marthon goes. I will be crossing my fingers that your butt doesn't flare up, ha!
P.S. I'm just curious on average how fast is your mile?
I'm glad you are feeling better. My x-rays didn't show any clear disc problems but they did show spasming muscle (I don't know how they saw that in an x-ray but I've really lost all faith in the medical profession right now anyways so whatever). I'm going to start PT but they can't get me in for almost 3 weeks which sucks since I'm moving in 5 weeks. We are going to Peru for a month to learn Spanish before Ortho school...which should be fun if I'm not in pain the whole time. Sorry for ranting, I'm having a pity party today and figured you could relate.
So glad you posted. So glad your back is better. I am praying that it will stay good through the marathon. I know how hard you have been working and this is no small feet! I admire you for sticking to it, especially on your own. That says a lot about you. You are awesome, must have got that from your mom. hee hee
Let's get together. When you aren't training maybe you could slow down a little to run with me. I think I am good for about 1/4 mile. What do you think?
You should totally take up Xtreme running after the marathon. Im joining the club. Its going to rock.
You're amazing
You are seriously inspiring! I really cannot even fathom being able to run that much! I love hearing you be so happy and proud!
